In partnership with the Geochemical Society and the Institution Notre Dame de Dakar, our program Field2Lab (From the field to the lab: geochemistry applied to climate change and environmental monitoring for young girls in STEM) aims at developing and empowering the next generation of female geochemists in Senegal. To do so, we target young girls attending high schools in Dakar and interested in embracing a career in Geochemistry applied to earth and environmental sciences.
CoastGIS Research Institute designed a tailored programme that:
- Introduces girls to Geochemistry and GIS applied to environmental sciences through a combination of interactive workshops, guided coastal field exploration, and supervised laboratory discovery.
- Strengthens their interest in STEM careers based on a hands-on experience acquired in their own community.
- Builds a network to foster their impact
Academic staff contributed in an advisory capacity to curriculum alignment and programme organisation to ensure consistency with national high-school chemistry curricula. Parents were invited to attend the Awards Ceremony.
Field2Lab was recognised among the Best programs for girls inclusion in the world and included in the 2025 UNESCO Global Compendium on Gender Inclusion in Science and the UNESCO Open Science Hub
